Infrastructure
The size of the ground needed to accommodate all the different projects will be approximately 40 hectares.
It has to have a good supply of water, preferably underground.
Initially, there has to be sufficient accommodation to house a skeleton staff to start the whole process. Further accommodation will be erected as needed.
Office space.
Kitchen facilities, including walk-in fridge/freezer.
Laundry facilities
Conference facilities.
Workshop areas.
Buildings for chicken razing.
At least one hothouse.
Costs
The initial capital outlay will be large, to facilitate all the projects necessary to become self-sufficient, and self-sustained. Bearing in mind that there will only be a few people involved in the initial stages, as far as the workforce is concerned, and therefore less expenditure, it will grow as more people are added to the programs. The cost of the property will be the biggest outlay.
Accommodation cost, initially, will depend on what is available on the property at the time of purchase. As the number of inmates increase, additional units will have to be built. This will consist of approximately eight rooms grouped around a lounge and shower area, with a small open area kitchen within the lounge. There will be communal meals, so all that is needed will be a microwave plus a kettle etc.
The cost factor will have an initial sharp upward curve, which will gradually flatten out, as the different projects become self-sustaining.
After consultation with three of the correctional institutions around Pretoria, it has shown that an average of four inmates per month will have to be catered for.
